Jimmy Buffett cruise ship will sail out of Tampa next year

The upcoming year will see the launch of a new cruise adventure emanating from Tampa, as the Jimmy Buffett legacy lives on through the Margaritaville at Sea cruise line. Despite Jimmy Buffett's absence, his brand continues to thrive, and the company has just revealed Tampa as the homeport for its next grand venture – the Islander cruise ship. Departing from Port Tampa Bay on its inaugural journey on June 14, the Islander promises an expanded experience with voyages to Mexico and Key West.

Formerly recognized as Costa Cruises Atlantica and temporarily docked during the pandemic, the Islander is undergoing a comprehensive transformation across its 12 passenger decks, capable of accommodating 2,650 passengers. With a redesigned fleet of 1,100 staterooms, the ship is poised to set sail on four- and five-night itineraries, featuring stops in Key West, Cozumel, and the Yucatan town of Progreso.

Highlighted by a remarkable 14-story atrium adorned with a distinctive nautical Margaritaville flip flop, the ship boasts a vibrant atrium bar embellished with three spectacular multi-story floating margarita glass chandeliers, according to the company's press release.

The Islander will introduce enticing amenities such as a three-story LandShark Bar at Sea by the poolside, a Margaritaville-inspired cornhole and mini-golf course, and family-friendly spaces like the Caribbean Amphibian Splash and Slide. Culinary delights on board include JWB Prime Steakhouse and Rita's Taco House. For those familiar with the Palm Beach-based Margaritaville at Sea Paradise, several beloved features will make a return, including Paradise Pickleball at Sea, Frank and Lola’s Pizzeria, Margaritaville Coffee Shop, and Cheeseburger in Paradise.
